Spanish football federation president Rubiales likely to resign after criticism over 'forced kiss'

The president of the Spanish Football Association, who gave a "forced kiss" to the Spanish player who won the 2023 FIFA Australia and New Zealand Women's World Cup, is expected to step down from his post.

AFP and ESPN reported on the 25th that "Luis Rubiales, president of the Spanish Football Association, will submit his resignation to the association."

President Rubiales grabbed the face of Hennifer Hermoso (Spain), who won the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, which ended on the 20th, grabbed the ball on the podium and kissed it.

This caused a great stir.

Hermoso expressed displeasure, saying, "I didn't feel good," and criticism arose that Chairman Rubiales' behavior was physical contact equivalent to sexual violence.

As the controversy intensified, President Rubiales admitted that he had committed atrocities. "My actions are wrong," he said. "I admit my mistake," he bowed. But criticism has not subsided.

Even Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez came forward and said, "Spanish football has been disgraced. He should come down from his seat," he said, sniping at President Rubiales.

In the end, Rubiales seems to have chosen to step down on his own when FIFA began reviewing disciplinary action on the 24th.

According to AFP, the Spanish Football Association has yet to offer any position on the resignation of President Rubiales. https://www.betmantoto.org
